Does the 6.5 grendel have the potential to replace the 5.56 for the military?

As far the FMJ, you're correct and for the europeans it'd be a good comparison. However they need to keep up or get the hell out of the way. They and their hague declaration can pound sand. We shouldn't be lowering our standards to accommodate their ignorance.

We don't need to lower our standards. There's no reason we can't continue to use the EPR (or even the SOST that the USMC is using), while Europe sticks with FMJ.

All I'm suggesting is that performance comparisons with FMJ -- which is readily available in 5.56, 6.5, and 7.62, whereas EPR is not -- would permit valid test and demo of the relative differences of the three calibers.

Doing the same with SMK would only be useful in comparing DMRs. Ball ammo is necessary for comparison of infantry rifle/carbine/LMG capabilities, and at present, FMJ is the only option for that.
