The only thing I recall reading in that vein was a post (by Grendelizer/HANKA, I think) on the old forum that some individuals in SOCOM liked 6.5 Grendel better than 6.8 SPC.
I'm confident the military has "looked at" and probably tested 6.5 Grendel, along with other cartridge developments. However, I doubt that it has been seriously considered for adoption, if only because of the weight and magazine capacity penalties compared to 5.56 NATO.
