I have a dpms 300 saum. It's very accurate, but has a 20" bull barrel, so velocity isn't what it could be but it's still a pig to lug around. It also IMO needs a longer gas system, as loads with heavy bullets (over 168) tend to pierce primers due to the longer dwell time. Light bullet loads are fine. Function is perfect with the mag I custom made for it.
So if I wanted to lug a large frame ar around a mountain I'd start with the lightest receiver set I could and buy a magnum bolt from KAK and go 22" 7mm or 300 Saum, that's probably as good as you can do with 2.8" mag restriction. No idea how the prc compares. Go with a +2 gas system and adjustable gas block. Another option, if you want super long bullets is use the shorter wssm case in the large frame. You could get 06 performance with the wssm case, or so they claim with the 300 ossm in an ar15.
