An AK with the Grendel round, balanced recoil system and 60 round mag, I think Ive gone to heaven. The balanced recoil system performed 70 percent better in effectiveness over the AK-74 in the !986 Abakan Russian military test. It came in second place behind the Blow Back-Shifted Pulse(also known as accumulated blow-back or Lafette type or the AN-94) This could all be a pipe dream but it will be an interesting development to watch. The AK107 using the counter-reciprocating rod is meant to keep recoil and muzzle climb minimized. It uses a cog wheel gear on top of a modified op-rod to push the counter-weight rod forward. In a sanitary environment, it might be cool, but I wonder about the reliability in field conditions, especially with the openness of the AK receiver and gas tube design. I believe the best way to do balanced recoil is found on the Ultimax 100.
