This petition could perhaps do all that, if it was addressing a bill that the Florida legislature was considering.

The flaw in your reasoning is that the assault weapons ban is not legislation proposed by elected politicians.

It is an initiative from private citizens, which bypasses the legislative process, to be voted on by the people.

Sending such a petition to the legislature can not, and will not, prevent the BAWN initiative from proceeding.

First of all the anti BAWN petition is more or less a statement from FL gun owners.It not going to be necessary. Because BAWN don?t stand a snowballs chance in hell of getting anywhere near the signatures required to make it on the ballot. There would have to be a lot of liberal cheating going on.
