Riots, the 2nd Amendment and you

Been thinking about the viral video making the rounds of a couple defending their mansion with an AR15 and a pistol.

I want to know, legally speaking, when would the use of deadly force have been justified — and upheld by a jury of their peers — in that situation?

If someone is trying to break down my front door and I'm in the house, I'm shooting the first person that comes through: "Your Honor, I thought the mob was going to lynch me and I feared for my life."

If the mob is passing by on the street and yelling taunts, I'm not even outside, engaging them. Might seem like a tough guy to go out with my gun, but rather than de-escalate, it could escalate. (One report said the mob was simply passing by on the street on their way to the mayor's house, or something. But how would a homeowner know that?)

If the mob burns my car or throws rocks to break my house windows, I hold my fire. Insurance will cover.

If the mob throws Molotov cocktails at my house, I open fire: "Your Honor, I thought the mob was going to burn down my house around me — and lynch me if I exited — and I feared for my life."

Complicated scenario and the homeowner's response is dictated by the mob's actions.

Comments? Different perspective? Not trying to talk tough, trying to be realistic according to present legal realities.
