Why is it not the tool for the job? The OP said he wants to build a rifle and has experience handloading. I was simply taking the counterpoint that with diligent handloading and an accurate rifle, a Grendel is absolutely capable of staying above bother the sound barrier AND the upper threshold of the transonic zone, if those are to be used as guidelines of what will work.
If you really just want to build a dedicated 1K gun, then no 6.5mm is ideal anyway. I was just trying to give real data to show the OP that it doesnt have to be the crapshoot that everyone seems to think it is based on their results shooting lighter bullets.
