The 6.5 Grendel SAAMI spec chamber was designed for the AR-15 with .300 neck with compound throat IIRC. I know Lothar-Walther used a tighter neck in their 6.5 CSS (which still shoots 6.5 Grendel ammo). Im not sure if Howa uses a tapered throat or the compound throat of the SAAMI spec chamber.
I can see why youd want a tighter neck in a bolt gun but I have no idea how many more reloads you can get using a .290 neck compared to .300 neck with quality reloading dies. The primer pockets usually give out on 6.5 Grendel brass before the necks loose tension or crack.
Itd be an interesting experiment to test how long brass could be reloaded from the tighter neck bolt action barrel compared to SAAMI spec barrel.
