Shooting update, went out to friends with land and private off deck 400 yard range and took the little howa with red dot and couple boxes of hornady black to have a little fun on the gongs. he was setting up an iron sighted 308 as well for something different and fun to hunt with next season or so. Free handing the 200 yard gong went quite well, both of us fairly high hit percentage. Then turned the dot brightness down to minimize size and went prone and played at 300/400. Having the drop data decal on stock for every 25 yards made it pretty fun. For 300 just hold bottom of dot at top of gong and send em, my last 3 went into fist size group and I did it quick. Then at 400 was 30" hold and I did 3 quick and went 2 for 3 on it. He shoots a lot more than I so did just as well and came away very impressed with this little rig and the set up with dot, he wants that dot on his 308 instead of irons now. He has shot f-class and other stuff for ages, 3d's in archery, very precision oriented, has run 6-dashers for almost as long as they've been around and all reloads. This little un-bedded set up with factory ammo did about moa in my hands and in this config. it easily showed consistency, we certainly both felt it was dialled right in and very accurate. Anyway, just wanted to update on some playtime before season kicks off. I had in mind 300 proficiency wouldn't be an issue and confirmed. And one could take it quite a bit further than that also, that 400 yard gong only 10", with an entire animal to reference against instead of little gong 400 rested prone won't be an issue either. Heck I must nearly be ready for my first Palma match lol. That was a fun little couple boxes of ammo. We played around at 50/100 first with some speed drills for fun before moving to the deck for the longer fun.
