I have some ideas for this, but it would be cost-prohibitive unless mass-produced in a way that could reduce the per-unit pricing, and would need a full R&D program to make happen.
GAU-8 and the drum for the A-10 has 1174 round capacity, which is a significant weight on the aircraft, at over 4,000 lbs for the loaded system. If the cases were brass or steel, it would be weight-prohibitive on the hardpoint-mounted munitions, such as AGM-65's, bombs, pods, and other external stores.
