The military is starting to realize that it is very wasteful to leave brass in a combat zone. Plastic makes more sense (weight) but steel would do for military purposes.
I love the idea of examining the brass with different materials.
If you could provide me with the material characteristics of the materials you had in mind I could include it.
I do seriously doubt a nonmetallic material could withstand the heat, without failing and/or melting to the barrel. However, it would be interesting to see the outcome of a stress/thermal FEA on a non metallic material.
