LRRPF52 and LR1955 both make valid points. I will make one more that has been eluded to in previous posts, and I will do so with a quote from one of the great axioms of military professionals. "Amateurs talk tactics, professionals talk logistics." The current fiscal environment combined with existing stockpiles of ammunition and weapons make the adoption of a new cartridge/weapons system on the other side of the bridge that is too far.
Again, until a weapons/cartridge that is truly next generation (revolutionizing small arms beyond the current metallic cased cartridge) makes its appearance in a package that is fiscally palatable by the bean counters, there will most likely be no change to the status quo.
