SCR:
I doubt one grain of powder is making a difference anyone could notice at 100 yards. At 200 yards, maybe. At 300 yards, surely.
What you basically did was to shoot a single test of five shots. Again, five shots is not sufficient for you to determine if one load is better than another unless your shots were wildly outside your calls.
If you are able to call your shots to about 1/4 inch at 100 yards, and all five of your shots went precisely to your calls, then you can be pretty positive about your load being an issue or not.
There is a reason why most of us go with five shots instead of three and it concerns how we quantify 'good'. If you don't know what I am talking about or are unable to call your shots with confidence, you should consider shooting more for a sample. If you shot two each, five shot strings, you would have a much better perspective on how well the load is shooting. Three would confirm in your mind if the load was doing what you wanted of it.
I wonder if you are not wanting bench rest accuracy out of a gas operated AR-15? If so, you may want to re-think your expectations.
