I think that both the 6.8mm SPC and 6.5mm Grendel were very good attempts to squeeze the maximum out of the constraints of the AR-15 package; they just have slightly different pros and cons.

Offhand, I can think of only three significant differences:

1. 6.5 Grendel has greater long range potential.
2. 6.8 SPC has better case dimensions for belt feed.
3. 6.8 SPC FMJ wound profile shows much earlier yaw.

Wound profiles of each are nearly equal for TSX and SMK bullets.

Mag capacity of each is 25 rounds (for 5.56 30-rd mag length).

Ammunition weight is the same for both.
