The method he uses to charge is along the lines of more modern manual of arms techniques used on AR's nowadays, with varying approaches as to how the support hand is oriented when using the latch. With extended latches, you can palm them like he did, or use your index and thumb to grab them, but in your case, the palm might work...depending on your ability to maintain muscular tension in your wrist in combination with your upper body mechanics.

Went back to the gun shop today, hoping to see if that method would work. Unfortunately, there's just not enough grasping area on the standard T-handle, and they didn't have an AR-15 with one of the over-sized handles.

While I was there, I tried the Mini-30, again. This time I sat down and placed the rifle's butt on my thigh, with the muzzle pointing up. That approach enabled me to pull the bolt all the way back, but only a few times. Then my palm started getting sweaty, making it very difficult to hold onto. It looks like I really need a handle with a much larger area, like that on Swiss battle rifles. Their bolt handle looks like it was designed just for me!
