I've passed plenty of bad info along too, because I heard it from an NCO who heard it when he was a PFC from another NCO who heard it from a guy behind a gun counter, who really knew his stuff.
"Over-lubricating" the M16 or M4 was one of the things I used to talk about and warn my soldiers about. Utter stupidity.
"Colt uses cheap cast receivers, Bushmaster's are better. The Government buys from the lowest bidder." Oh how wrong could I be!
"Gene Stoner designed the AR15 with a 1/14" twist for better wound ballistics, and the 1/12" and 1/7" twists took that away...oh sh*t, look at that guy's head come apart!" Must have been a fluke.
I could go on. We were soldiers once, dumb and young.
