Trump, the second Amendment ,panic buying and shortages
#21
If things go wrong in November it's gonna get ugly.
I was caught short on supplies in 2008, that won't be happening again.

FLS, your question "Do you think 1000 rounds Per caliber is enough to get you through the ammo shortage?Especially when you don’t know how long the shortage will last? " is a good one to think about.
In your experience what number of rounds per caliber did you come up with?

One data point, maybe... in a war zone don't our soldiers carry 7x30 rounds on them (talking 556)?

What sort of "firefights" should a person anticipate.
Or, how many rounds per day or per week should one expect to use.

Then multiply out by x number of weeks... what is "x"?

I should probably add, these questions probably assume one is sheltering in place.

My thinking is that the amount of ammo needed is proportional to how bad and how long the crisis is.
Katrina or L.A. Riots = 100's
Temporary break down of law and order for months = 1K
EMP, coronal discharge and Electrical grid being down for over a year = 5K
SHTF total breakdown of civilization = 25K
Planet of the Apes or Zombie Apocalypse = "Were going to need a bigger boat!"
I'm not sure how much ammo would be needed in a civil war, too many variables but having a lot wouldn't hurt.

I would love to have 1000 rounds for every firearm I own. But ,that would mean Over 200,000 rounds maybe. I kind of lost track of how many guns I own.LOL!
At this time, you know that you’re gonna have to conserve ammunition.I’m only shooting once or twice a week. I probably have 2000 rounds for each caliber I own,not weapon. Mostly reloads and the ammo is divided and marked for specific weapons. But I also have 1000’s of bullets,8lb powder containers and other reloading supplies.
What bothers me most is, in a real state of emergency, where do you go?I live on 1 acre with just the fruit trees, my home is in the middle and bordering propertiies are at least 50 yrds away.My storage building is also in the far corner. My home is more defendable than most. But I still wouldn’t want to be caught in it in a fire fight.
I’d probably prefer to pack the truck with supplies, several weapons and lots of ammo. But I will still need room for my honey and the pets.Camping in the woods would be a far better place to be. Because those whom you would be fighting against will be out of place there. And most of us fellas on this site are hunters,so we could easily survive in the woods.I do well, because I chose my mate well. She is a Midwest country girl and she can live in the woods.

Firearms need ammo and mags. Don’t forget the mags!

I am definitely taking notes, appreciate the insights.

I’d occasionally take my employee to AA meetings after he got a DUI.He was court mandated to do 90 1 hr meetings. You can apply most of those sayings to anything.

Another angle on the bug out concept, is to not.

Just like supplies and tools—where you can never have enough--building relationships with neighbors is a process. Even if it’s not easy, it’s worth having a good rapport with everyone on all sides. If crazy comes, you want to be surrounded by friends. You have to know them before they can become friends. Invest early and often.

This fits in with the question of, what is enough?

I’ve been a gun owner/shooter since I was a teen. I’ve inherited dozens of guns. And I own dozens.Never enough! I find myself always wanting another and another and another.....
Same with accessories and ammunition.

You knew there has been increasing popularity for socialism and cultural revolution. Did you know this is not organic? Did you know this is being taught as common core curriculum in higher education nation wide and has been more than a few decades? They thought it would be politically expedient but its a national security threat.

Block quote from BLM website. Note the language excluding fatherhood and the promotion of transgender females in the black community. https://blacklivesmatter.com/what-we-believe/ I am confident in assuming you are already aware of the importance of fatherhood in any community. I think this would undermine it specifically in the black community. At best this seems to be a source of positive harm. At worst its psycho-evil manipulation. https://blacklivesmatteratschool.com/tea...materials/ https://docs.google.com/document/d/1UHtJ...2yYG0/edit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bixNhpo85-w ("we are trained marxists" quote starting @ 4:15)

We are unapologetically Black in our positioning. In affirming that Black Lives Matter, we need not qualify our position. To love and desire freedom and justice for ourselves is a prerequisite for wanting the same for others.

We see ourselves as part of the global Black family, and we are aware of the different ways we are impacted or privileged as Black people who exist in different parts of the world.

We are guided by the fact that all Black lives matter, regardless of actual or perceived sexual identity, gender identity, gender expression, economic status, ability, disability, religious beliefs or disbeliefs, immigration status, or location.

We make space for transgender brothers and sisters to participate and lead.

We are self-reflexive and do the work required to dismantle cisgender privilege and uplift Black trans folk, especially Black trans women who continue to be disproportionately impacted by trans-antagonistic violence.

We build a space that affirms Black women and is free from sexism, misogyny, and environments in which men are centered.

We practice empathy. We engage comrades with the intent to learn about and connect with their contexts.

We make our spaces family-friendly and enable parents to fully participate with their children. We dismantle the patriarchal practice that requires mothers to work “double shifts” so that they can mother in private even as they participate in public justice work.

We disrupt the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement by supporting each other as extended families and “villages” that collectively care for one another, especially our children, to the degree that mothers, parents, and children are comfortable.

We foster a queer?affirming network. When we gather, we do so with the intention of freeing ourselves from the tight grip of heteronormative thinking, or rather, the belief that all in the world are heterosexual (unless s/he or they disclose otherwise).

We cultivate an intergenerational and communal network free from ageism. We believe that all people, regardless of age, show up with the capacity to lead and learn.

We embody and practice justice, liberation, and peace in our engagements with one another.

I haven't shopped for ammo in awhile, except G factory ammo, so that I have enough brass to reload for the next couple years. Goal is to have 3000 rounds minimum to keep 3 Grendels fed. I wouldn't consider that even close to hoarding. I would be happier to have twice that.

Panic buying is to be expected for the foreseeable future, all things considered. I started buying bulk 5.56 and 7.62x39 back in the late early 90s when Chinese steel core was still readily available, before ffls were banned from selling it and continued purchasing it from private sellers. I seemed to be more prescient than many others back then. I felt I needed 10k min. of those 2 calibers. I still don't consider that hoarding. The 7.62 SC was a disappearing commodity, so bought it when ever I ran across some. Didn't plan on using SC unless it was necessary, so bulked up on fmj for plinking and some training. Since one can burn through 1500 5.56 or 7.62x39 in a 2 or 3 day class, it seemed 10k was a reasonable qty. to keep on hand.

If things go bad, I'm so far out in the sticks, I don't expect too much trouble. Only about 10 homes in the square mile around our place, which occupies the high ground
all solid conservative families, one an LE and half the remainder farmers. Hard to see a need to bugout if it comes to that, but prepared to do so anyway. My wife wouldn't be able to bugout for any length of time anyway, due to health issues. If things go south, we'll hunker down, won't need to worry about ammo for awhile. The bigger concern would be a lack of trigger fingers.

Mateba is spot on about the BLM mission statement. The 3 female cofounders are self professed trained organizers and Marxists. Their goal isn't to educate or have a conversation with those that disagree with their platform to try and get along. I consider them to be a paramilitary arm of those that want Trump out of office. Their strengths are they're young, very tech savvy and highly unpredictable and motivated. Their weakness appears to be they're poorly trained for armed conflict. I'm sure they recognize that and are working toward minimizing that based on comms coming from the dark web.

I don't pretend to know how things shake out, regardless of who gets elected. One thing is certain, if they push a Marxist agenda, which is clearly apparent, there is going to be a big problem.

I think a lot of the gun and ammo manufacturers are hypocrites. They all say they support whoever the NRA supports but secretly support the opposition. Do you think they want the shelves to be full of all of the things we desire? Hell no! They love it when the shelves are empty and we're all begging for more at whatever price. Think about your situation. 1000 rounds? 1000 rounds per gun? Geez, my house is only 860 sq. ft. I have to say that if I am in a 1000 round fire fight, I'm probably not the winner.
#39
One great thing about the 2A, it places no limit on how much ammo you can own. Local codes are another matter.

I can tell you that 20 or so 50 cal cans with 1000 in each, stacked takes up no more than around 3 sq. ft. or less. I wouldn't recommend storing the bulk of ones ammo in your house. An appropriate qty. for your situation, of loaded magazines in the safe and or range bag, yes.

Haven't considered how much I need in a firefight. To me it is a moot question. All my planning surrounds how much I normally use in a year, without having to replenish. So a two year supply is appropriate for me, in 5 calibers and half that in 4 others. Everyone's mileage may very.
