Adjustable butt stock

Got a question for you guys / gals. I'm putting together another AR, and would appreciate your opinion on a fully adjustable butt stock. They are expensive, but is the $$$$ worth the benefit?. I hear MOE makes a nice one. Any other brands recommended?? All replies appreciated.

What kind of build are you doing, or using this on?

For a heavier precision gun that rides the bench or prone, the Magpul PRS is the one to beat, mainly due to the adjustable comb height, and further recoil-dampening effects.

I Have a Rogers Superstock on my 18" but it's more of a carry and hunt rig. Works great for me.

PRS,, and now you can get an adjustable butt pad for them also that twists and extends. Do not know where he got it though, but it is out there. A friend put one on his and you can adjust it to fit right into the pocket. BANG BANG!!

I am assembling a .308 Win, 24" BHW standard weight, which is a little heaver than "H" bar weight. 1 in 9.73 twist. Haven't decided on 11 degree target crown or some type of muzzle brake.

Another PRS user. However if you are in a situation where you are going to carry the rifle, the weight might become an issue

The PRS is considered the Roll's Royce of AR bench shooting. It is a nice stock.

That said, I have never needed to adjust the cheek-riser up or the back out. I also found the bottom cover for the Picatinny bottom monopod was sliding off in the recoil. Never really got a good bag placement under it as it sits pretty low to the bench. I like stocks that 'ride' the bag in recoil.

Earlier model PRS' don't come with QD holes if that is your preferred sling method. You can replace one of the sling bars with a QD bar from Parker Mountain (parkermountainmachine.com) if this is your preference. Or you can buy Magpul's latest Gen III PRS version which has QD built-in - and it's fractionally lighter (760 grams vs. 710 grams). Note, in Magpul's marketing photo for the GenIII the model is not using the cheek riser either.

I do like the PRS weight. It's solid and heavy. Any weight on a bench gun will make it more stable and improve scores. You need to lug this weight around if using this for hunting.

I ended up swapping the PRS out for a Magpul MOE fixed A2 stock. It's lighter and more in keeping with the 18" barrel, being a mobile hunting gun. When benching I find it rides the bags better. It's a third of the price of a PRS and has a compartment which houses a spare bolt, boresnake, oil and Allen keys (there is no storage compartment on the PRS).

If it was a longer, heavier barrel for the bench then I would stick with the MOE but put some weight in the compartment.

I kinda like the Magpul MOE Rifle stock. It fits me without the need for any adjustments (with the thicker but plate).

Much lighter and more adjustable than the Magpul. We had the Magpul mounted on our LSS chasis and it was too long.

Thank you for the response. I may carry the rifle some, but most likely to be dropped for at a stand for hunting. I have a couple of other AR's that may be better for tromping through the wilderness. By the way, I don't "tromp" as much as I used too............. lol

Funny story about that, last weekend i had a cousin tell me he found a spot with hundreds of gophers and asked if i wanted to join. I told him id love to and he said its a short hike over a hill. I was thinkin no big deal, bring a shooting mat, some ammo and the 24" grendel (24" with a prs and vortex viper pst) now im 22 years old so that grendel doesnt feel heavy to me. But half way into the "short" hike up and down big hills and a couple miles.... i was hating myself for bringing that grendel. Lol

Another PRS user. I always need an elevated cheek piece, the PRS does that and LOP with a tool less system. Having a 23" Lilja barrel with out the PRS the rifle would be barrel heavy.
