My first Grendel

A full build starts with but a single part. I received my 16” GB barrel and bolt today.

I probably have a buffer detent and spring floating around somewhere that I can add it to prevent that from becoming another rifle. I think I have that stored behind the refrigerator.

Lol! Well, good luck with that. Make sure you check the dust bunnies well, the few times I’ve lost a spring, they seem to be very interested in rabbits.

Resistance is futile all it takes is a buffer detent and spring to morph into a complete build...By the way Ballistic Advantage has sale on barrels today if that will help. Lowers and uppers on sale too...Same money now......

It’s growing! Had a complete upper as part of another build that has stalled out, long story, so I swiped it when my STNGR 13.5” HWK came in. Discovered that here BTW so thank you very much. I guess I can technically go bang now although I am lacking gas block, tube, and a magazine. I get so mentally constipated at times that I can’t decide what to get. Looking at an AR Stoner clamp on from Midway but haven’t pulled the trigger yet.

I like it so far! From what little experience I have so far, Stoner products have taken a fast turn for the cheap-feeling low end of the spectrum. Unfortunate, as I like and use Midway quite a bit.

C-rap! I like to stick with blocks from either the barrel mfg or in my case the rail mfg since I have a longer rail on this one. Oriole that with looking to get a clamp on I have narrowed my options. Out with the AR St. was looking to get one of their mags as well. ASC or C Products mags GTG?

If you plan on running a suppressor you ought to consider an adjustable gas block. If there is no suppressor in your future any low profile gas block should work. I used a CMMG once and it was gtg. I really like E-Lander mags best but have a few ASC. I don’t own any of the new C Products Defense mags but unfortunately a few lemons slip through with all three brands. I bought my last few E-Landers from Brownell’s, no question asked guarantee in case you get a lemon. Brownell’s also sell CPD mags but out of stock last time I checked. If you qualify for C&R or mil/LE discount Brownell’s has good prices.

Looks like last pic but what you can't see is I have a gas block & tube now. Should be fully functional once I get a mag. Have a couple of ASCs I found on clearance so we'll see how those do. Will likely get a couple of E-Landers once I come up with some other stuff to order to make the most of the shipping

Great set up!! What optic did you go with?

I was thinking it would be polite to include a build list.

The optic is a Super Sniper 1-4x that was on the 5.56 upper. Not sure if that’s what I’ll stick with but it’s what I have to go bang with currently.

Rail is a STNGR HWK 13.5”.
Gas block is from STNGR as well. Nice finish and machining but the set screws are sub par.
Gas tube is Spikes.
Trying to select a sexy muzzle device now.

Thanks! I think I will try to fit a range run into next week. The boy needs to experience the range so he can get an idea as to why I can such the jackass when we go shooting. Nothing like being halfway down range when you here the RO yell at someone to quit touching their rifle!

I understand that one, I have taken plenty of first timers to the range and have had to reinforce that one. Now I just take out my emergency medical equipment (which includes a CAT tourniquet for just-in-case) and folks get the hint that I am not messing around when it comes to safety.
