that aluminum skeletonized grip is darn comfortable thers nothing sharp on it and its smooth as polished glass all the way around , i had ordered one that looked like it was just a bunch of holes in it it wasnt near as nice
ive got a matching trigger guard and all the rest fo the lower parts in anodized purple , i may order a few spare 10rd mags to send out to be anodized to match but then again thats the most likely item to get scratched up so maybe not

Your view is amazing. The wife and I had our "honeymoon" (17 years married) over my Christmas break, went from KS to sand Springs, CO by way of Dodge City. It reminds me very much of the drive home. Now, I'm double offended. Ha.

yeah deff some great views here , specially in the summer when i can get up the mountians on 2 wheels , deffinatly one giant outdoor playground here for whatever ya wanna do

finally got around to making an adapter to put a tripod mount plate on my grendel since the keymod does not run the length of my handguard now i dont have to use my heavy af creedmoor for night stuff

i have 2 of theese plates one in aluminum and one in plastic

the plastic one was on the creedmoor which has keymod slots all the way down it so what i did is if u look at this picture were the red circles are those 2 numbs are the perfect spacing for keymod so i drilled 2 hole sand counrter sink them for the keymod screws


then with a die grinder i sloted the top of the plate so the actual keymod nuts would fit properly
that picture is the aluminum plate , what i explained works really good on the plastic plate the aluminum plate will take a lil more work cause of those 2 nubs

now on my grendel it doesnt have keymod slots all the way down so what i did with the aluminum plate was this
my grendel has like triangle cutouts down the handquard were it doesnt have keymod slots

so i removed the center stud fromt he plate , its just a 1/4inch corse thread
removed my handquard from my grendel and took a flat washer and ground 2 flats on it so it would sit inside the flat spot on the bottom of my handguard
i then took a 1/4inch coarse thread bolt and ground the head down so it was just thick enough to get a wrench on the head ( had to do this to clear the gasblock when sliding the handguard back on
stuck the bolt and washer into my handguard in one of the triangle openings facing down and then the adapter plate spins right onto the 1/4 bolt tightened it up and marked the location to drill and tap a hole in the plate so i could thread a small bolt in it that would catch the next triangle slot on my hangquard so the plate couldnt rotate.

after that i put a nut on the bottom of the plate on the 1/4 bolt and snugged it down real good with some red locktite and cut the bolt off flush witht he end of the nut so it sat below the bottom edge of the plate

slid my handguard back on bolted it down and was ready to go

im bad at explianing things so ill grab some pics when i get a moment
i need to do something about the plastic plate on my creedmoor i dont trust the plastic with a 23 pound gun ontop of it ill prolly just modify another aluminum plate for it

ive had this in my watchlist if this attaches to ur ball head it should work just fine

will clamp right onto a rail or rail section id do this on my creedmoor but i want to have all my stuff the same so i can use 1 tripod for all my different guns

I've seen that actual item on Amazon, but it's not a Vortex product. Play on the name at best, outright infringement more likely. Either way, the reviews aren't very good. I'd imagine it'd work, but for how long? Surprised I don't see more products that would adapt. Something that doesn't look like a piece of forged Chinese pot metal paperweight.

I'm not 100% on the explanation of your work, but I'm visual so pics would probably clear up the details just fine. Thanks for the idea.

heres ones i took when i was first doing it , before i put the second tiny bolt in it to stop of from rotating though if i tighten the 1/4 bolt/nut int he center enough it wont rotatate but a lil extra insurance never a bad thing




ill get some better pics today after work of both ways i did it

the head of the bolt just clears the gasblock and the barrel

since u have a pic rail on the bottom of urs u could try one of theese arca to rail plates if ur tripod takes this style plate

I can't tell you how many different ways I've searched for these exact pieces of kit. And every time was sent on a wild goose chase (usually ending up with me oogling RRS's webpage and growing more and more despondent with my lack of man-funds.

Mel, you're a true help here. I've seen that "Vortex" adapter I don't know how many times and have just seen the cheap-o oozing from it like a blister on a Gremlin. And about that excited at owning one too...

if u have keymod or m-lok slots all down ur handguard at the bottom the best way i see to attach it is just bolt the arca plate right to the handgaurd and forget any kind of adapter

those 2 lil round nubs on the bottom of the plate are the exact spacing u need for keymod so if u drill the right size hole in those for the keymod screws , then u just grind the nubs off so the plate is flat on the bottom and u can countersink the screws in , and then a lil work on the other side with a die grinder to make room for the keymod nuts and it will go right on , m-lok is as easy as drilling 2 holes and grinding whats left of the nubs flat with the plate and ur good to go

and for what its worth the plastic plate which is easier to mod holds up my 23 pound ( with night setup on it) ar-10 just fine

So its sunday and im bored so finally getting around to machining the skelotonized loweer to replace my dpms lower on my grendel

almost got it finished but it started to hail and snow pretty bad so i decided to wrap it up and head home





just gota do a final clean up cut in the actual mill , mill the trigger slot and drill the trigger pins

its a pain in the butt but not bad , much rather just buy a lower again lol but i couldnt find any skelotonized ones that matched my handguard

Ok now im happy , well except forgetting the box of the rest of my purple anodized parts home

I thing ima buy some more mags glass bead them and send them out for purple anodizing
