I'm from CA. I'm looking at building a Grendel to do some hog and deer hunting. I will be shooting 100 to 120 grain bullets. Will a 1 in 9 twist be better for these or will a 1 in 8 twist to just as good?

Welcome to the forum zealful! The 1:9 twist will stabilize those bullets but 1:8 twist usually does better with long heavier bullets (125+ grains or long monolithic bullets). Bill Alexander testing showed improved accuracy from short barrels with fast twist 1:1.75. I have two 1:9 twist 6.5 Grendel barrels (16”, 20”) and they both are accurate but I have never shot any bullets heavier than 123 grains.

Welcome to the Horde from an old new member in Middle Georgia. Geez JJ, if he lives in Cali, he gets told how to do EVERYTHING!!. Anyway, there's lots of great info here and you'll find video from members on youtube as well. When I was doing all my research from the barrel folks on the Grendel it seems as tho when the dust settled the 1:8 was the sweet spot. That's where I'm starting with my pennies and will see where it takes me down the hog trough. Just wish we could get a manufacturer to make a LH bolt gun.
