Hello all -
Back in 2020 some work buddies convinced me to try building an AR platform rifle, which I did, despite the difficulties finding parts during the first summer of the pandemic. I ended up putting together an Aero Precision 16 inch Wylde rifle. At the time the only handguard that I could find was a 9 inch Aero Atlas. It looks a little goofy but shoots great.
Fast forward to November of 2021 - I finally caught covid! What to do while at home for 10 days? Build another rifle. I had been reading a ton previously about what chambering to use for my inevitable next rifle assembly, and I had already narrowed it down when I resulted positive, so off to the races of ordering parts I went. By this time in the pandemic, parts weren't hard to find so I was able to get my hands on an Odin Works 20 inch Grendel barrel, BCG and adjustable gas block. The rest of the assembly was all Aero M4E1 parts and 15 inch Atlas HG and other bits and bobs.
BTW my covid stay at home was great - I got to stay out in my shop building with my camp stove, a fridge FULL of beer, and tools and Grendel parts. It turned out to be a welcome reprieve, what with where I work and staffing and moral issues and yada yada...
I am admittedly brand spanking new to shooting but dammit if I didn't do my homework on the Grendel. I finally got to shoot it with a cousin (former Marine and instructor) and he liked it so much that he built one as well.
My cousin and I are getting together at his loading bench in the next few weeks so that I can learn the art of reloading - have a bunch of Starline brass and Hornady ELD 120 grain bullets ready.
