I like mine, seen many people that have excellent results, mine shoots good, probably more me than the barrel, their customer service is good, only complaint I have is mine doesn't like the 120 barnes or the 129 gmx both won't stabilize at 100 yds, not sure if it's the rifeling or the twist rate, shoots the 123 amaxes god and the 100 gr Barnes good, just not those long projos

My 22" Match Bull barrel shoots very well, shooting 123 AMax with ~1/2 moa accuracy in my caffeine destabilized hands. I haven't tried other bullets, as the components availability stifles experimentation, for now. They don't foul like traditional barrels, and clean up very easily. BHW has been great, and have always seemed to take care of any customer issues promptly.

I had a BHW 18" with midlength gas that was quite accurate.

If it matters to you, and assuming nothing has changed at BHW, their chamber is 264 LBC and not the SAAMI Grendel chamber.

Tools, we spoke of the pills last yr.======1-9 twist=95-105 grn bullets, are the best for stability.
My 1-8 twist can handle the 85-115 units just fine=, that's what I have-and prefer to shoot

The BHW chamber & BBL rifling is an interesting item... less rifling marks than any other rifle.... Accuracy is a trial & error effort.. Alexander Arms is still the best way to get -order a rifle-bbl., , or what ever is needed.

Please explain to me why this matters? Especially if using factory ammo and not reloading "hotter" loads.

Drifter - this would be immediately apparent when they selected the barrel, as that is how they are listed.

Matters to some, not so much to others. I merely mentioned it so that the buyer would make an informed decision, with no intention to derail this thread.

There are quite a few previous threads discussing the chamber differences available via the custom forum search:

Thanks. I just didn't bother to check BHW's website.

bhw barrels are still the .264 lbc chamber and from what i have read they don't plan to go to the grendel chamber.

The chamberings for a BHW 264 LBC use the 0.125 bolt NOT the 0.135 Grendel. For what it is worth I have been shooting that and other LBC variants for about two years now heavily and have had no parts issues. I have been shooting them at the high end on the loadings for F-Class matches and they have done me well. Also the production times are now in the sane 10-12 week turn around area according to the owner.

I had the impression that BHW had done it both ways previously, calling the bolts Type 1 and Type 2. And I thought they had switched at some point to Type 2 (0.135) unless the buyer specified otherwise. Has something changed recently at BHW?

Also, I think Les Baer Custom designed the 264 LBC to use the Grendel-type bolt.

They have done both. Last time I consulted with BHW on it, last week, they had gone to a default TYPE I , 0.125, but would do the TYPE II , 0.135 Grendel depth, on order. The fast twist rate is 1:8. All of my LBC cases guns, six of them, are done with the TYPE I. In fact I have a new 264 LBC bull barrel upper arriving tomorrow built by RPG for my 1000 yard quest.

I believe the TYPE I default came about from the near impossibility for customers in getting the Grendel bolts. Being on their Pro Staff gives me a pretty good pipeline when questions arise.

You are welcome and on that note I must say I have learned a tremendous amount in reading the postings here. In particular yours have given me plenty of food for thought. I do appreciate your contributions.

I ordered and received LBC .264 bolts and they are Type II. This was 3 months ago and they did not offer or ask if I wanted Type I or Type II. I think I'll call Monday and see if they are even doing the Type I. Truthfully they don't have any full bolts available lately, they were waiting for extractors and don't have an ETA last I heard.

There Type II Bolts are working perfectly in my Beowulf's and I have a few hundred rounds on the current one.

Do they only chamber for the .125's now? I thought they offered .135" (Type II) by default, with .125" (Type I) available on request...

Greg- Does BHW offer actual bolts of either type, or just the barrels? And whichever the answer, has it always been that way in regards to the 264 LBC?

Thanks in advance.

They did bolts several years ago but not in the last two. Tactical Ammunition is the main source they recommend. They have a working relationship with each other. Last time l talked with TA they were to have both in stock about now.

Like I said the TYPE I is the default but they will do the other on request at no extra charge.

BHW is local to me. About 3 months ago I ordered a 16" barrel/bolt combo to see what all the hoopla was about. I received it and the bolt last month:

I did not specify the bolt, intentionally, because I wanted to see what they would ship. Guess what I got? And my AA bolts seem to lock up just fine as well.

The barrel looks awesome. I haven't put it together, because I was hoping to build it out with a special upper/lower. I just haven't done it yet. Waiting on a trigger, among other things.

As for the LBC chamber, yes, it was designed around the deeper bolt. Les Baer ONLY uses the deeper bolt and he designed it, thats why its called a Les Baer, but many people have modified the depth so that they could use the shallow bolt face for differeent reasons, not the least of which is they had some source for shallow bolts!
