Spending the day at the range today..

It’s 0500 and I’m loading the truck up for a full day at the range….

Shooting my brand new NF SHV FFP scope at 200 and 300 meters. I shot it at 100 yards Friday.

Going to concentrate on my bag setup, trigger pull and follow through on every single shot today.

If I don’t have a great NPA, I am NOT going to muscle the gun on target, I am going to start all over and build the position again.

Focus on breathing and calling every shot today….

Shooting an AR G gun, Starline brass, CCI 450, 90 gr. TNT over 8208.

What a great day, loaded and shot 150 rounds today. All at 200 & 300:meters.

Hot as blazes, just really took my time on every shot.

Can’t really tell that much difference between the FFP SVH and the SFP SVH. I shooting the same scores with either scope.


Thursday I’m going to give it a go again, only this time going to use a bipod. Shooting this time mostly at 300:meters.

Glad everything went well Chuck. I like shooting on private land but for a range that looks really good. We’re getting a break with lower temperatures this week in the midwest, maybe Thursday will be cooler in Georgia.

I use a very small digital scale that I bought at Midway quite a while ago. The scale is put in a small plastic box so the wind currents will not effect it. To set the powder thrower up, I load 10 charges into the scale pan, weigh the pan divide by 10 to get the correct amount of powder.


The bullets are seated with hand dies…….it is very easy to play with seating depths by using die shims.

The brass is 100 % prepared ready to load.

Yesterday was spent experimenting with different front and rear bag setups…..

I have 2 huge fans on the firing line and the ceiling has some kind of high tech insulation on it….

“Roger that”! Can you throw stick/extruded powders within .1 of a grain with that Harrells?

I throw big stick powders with the Harrells, it goes crunch, crunch every now and then but no big deal….

Very accurate……very fast…….

If you start throwing powder with a Harrell’s, it will change the way you live.

One area that I worked on very hard is the way my right hand grips the gun.

My right thumb is arthritic and sometimes it kills me to shoot an AR or a pistol.

All day Monday, I kept my thumb on the right side of the lower…….while it was awkward, it still worked out ok from the bench. I found myself holding onto the mag well with my left hand some of the session.

Slowly but surely I am adjusting my shooting style to my physical changes as I age…
