Ruger American Ranch Feed Problem Fix(s)

I ended up picking up a RAR a little while back. I wanted to have something a bit handier with a suppressor length wise and the 16” barrel and price were good. Additionally the rifle seems to be accurate, although I could only sight in at 47 yds at the indoor range here in east Kansas. However I ended up having the same failure to feed/jam issues that several other members here have had. I ended up going with two solutions (as well as contacting ruger who sent me a new mag and mag well that ended up having the same problem).

The first fix that solved most of the feed issues except feeding the last round from the magazine was to cut two coils from the supplied magazines. I also polished the feed ramp with some Flitz.

The second thing that has seemed to help the final round feed issue was to take a small piece of Kydex and bond it to the aft bottom portion of the mag well. There was enough slop in both mag wells that the AR magazines would nose down and forward when I cycled the bolt (either lightly or forcefully). Putting the piece of kydex in the bottom aft part of the mag we’ll forces the magazine to stay level.

I still can get the E-lander 5 round mag I have to feed will but it is really stiff with the spring and I don’t know that I want to try it much more now that the factory magazines seems to feed reliably.

I had a similar issue with a loose fitting mag that caused feeding issues but instead of using kydex on the mag well, I used a small amount of 2 part epoxy to build up magazine where it intersects the mag well. I figured less risk than modifying the mag well since I only use one mag for my Ruger anyway.

Load the E-Lander and let it sit loaded. You can also use a ruler or dowel rod to cycle the spring to help the spring wear in. Once the mag spring wears in and takes set the E-Lander mags are much easier to load and unload.

haven't had any issues in the mdt chassis, but I ran it initially in the factory stock, picked up 10 round c-products and they cycled fine except the last round if cycled slowly, the last round jumps out of mag before nose gets in the hole, so it required some speed, rarely see the end of a magazine practically so have not thought about this for a couple years, I've since polished the bottom of the bolt, dropped a couple coils out of the mags, snickity snick, feels like a regular push feed rig now, very happy with how it feeds and the effort required
