    Starline Brass 6.5G specs

I was one of the first if not the first to have the new brass (blessings of living down the road from Starline and Sierra ) and although I was TDY and didnt get to play much with them, I did get asked about some measurements on them.
I am home now and got to throw em in the calipers and on scale so here we go.
I took of pic of my notes to save time.
Thickness at the neck_________ Base Diameter right above the Case Head__________ Wt. of empty brass (NEW)

I have yet to load any.
I only fired my new GrendelHunter upper yesterday for the first time as I just received my Hornady black ammo.

    Interesting. Thicker measurements, lighter weight.
    Any theories?

All my Starline is usually thicker than others in the same caliber....
As far as weighting brass, It is not a practice I conduct.... just did it cuz someone asked.
So I really could not speculate.

Not sure if you can tell from the pic but, the Starline is noticeable shinier too.
Starline on left as you look at pic.

If you throw em all together you can pick out one from another probably 95% of the time.
Starline mentions there is a lubricant used on cases so that may be a factor....

          Starline Brass- our quality process
"Our quality process begins with premium brass comprised of 70 percent copper and 30 percent zinc. Unlike some competitors, Starline's brass is vertically drawn, which holds wall thickness variation to a minimum. We also anneal our cases between each draw to ensure consistent metallurgy in all lots."

That is "cartridge brass" by composition, 70-30.

Typically 3 types of brass, Cartridge brass (70-30), low brass (80 Cu, 20 Zn), Muntz metal (62-38 iirc) (not used as often).

Cartridge brass is about 2% less dense, and typically has been a bit thinner (and stronger) than low brass.
Alloy differences could account for some of the weight delta.
In 308's, Winchester is cartridge brass, Remington is low brass.

Are there significant metallurgical differences in the alloys used in various brands of cartridge brass? The answer is yes, and we have proof. Using a state-of-the-art X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometer, some tech-savy Wisconsin shooters recently analyzed the alloys in seven different types of cartridge brass.

                No problem.....
I know some are skeptical about the Starline Brass, just wanted to help out if I can.

How about internal depth from neck opening to base?

OK... I am in my basement and figured I would check before heading out to Church,
(not the same 5 pieces as before, as I placed them back in the containers already)

There is your weight difference between Hornady and Starline. More case capacity with the thinner base.

Wonder if itll last longer than hornady.... and if it'll do that weird bulge thing at the bottom of the case, like all my hornady brass does.

Does that put Starline close to Lapua? I don't own any Lapua, but just wondering...

Probably not but it certainly makes it look better than Hornady. Maybe closer to Nosler? Time will tell also because Lapua and Norma hold those low variations for years on end.

Could I trouble you for the rim thickness as shown measured in the attached photo?
