    Advice on Barnes 120g ttsx

I just bought a box of barnes 120g ttsx and wanted to load them up and shoot some this weekend. I am fairly new to grendel and reloading, mainly been reloading 223. I have 2 cans of BL-C2 and 2 cans of CFE223, and just wonder if
anyone can recommend a starting point, it looks like im already on the wrong path and should have bought the 100g barnes for more velocity. Im shooting a 20'' faxon barrel. Ive shot some 100yd 300yd and 500, all with hornady black, this thing shoots very nice with that bullet. From here on out tho i need to find the perfect Deer bullet, not a target round and get it on target. I probably wont shoot past 300 on deer with this. Im willing to change these bullets to something else if i need to, i just wanna get prepared with something good and ill probably stick with it through deer season. Ive been reading about grendel not pushing the 120g fast enough, o well i could target shoot with them and buy something else. Any advice yall shoot at me would be awesome.

I’ve used BLC2 a little with the 6.5 Grendel and have used several pounds of CFE 223 in the 6.5 Grendel. Hornady has a monolithic 120 grain GMX and their start load for BLC2 is 26.1 grains with a max load of 30.5. Hornady’s start Load with CFE223 and 120 grain GMX is 26.2 max load of 31.2 grains.

AA loading data shows a minimum load of 29.7 grains BLC2 and a max load of 30.8 grains of BLC2 with a Barnes 120 grain TSX. AA doesn’t specify the barrel length in their test but max load BLC2 is 2495 FPS indicates to me AA probably is using a 20” 6.5 Grendel barrel.

If your looking for a 300 or less copper deer and hog bullet, maybe the 85 grain trex would fit what your looking to do.

That is the bullet I will 've working with to do my first ever load work up.

Should be a hammer on deer and hogs at 300 or less and that is what I want it for.

The 120 ttsx is slow but holds great past 300 so does the 100 grain ttsx.

I bought a bunch of 120 TTSX last year in anticipation of reloading my 260 Rem and my 6.5 Grendel.

Having looked over this forum for the past year, though, I"m thinking that it might be best to drop down to a 110 gr monolithic for the grendel and use one load for both deer and antelope and save the 120 gr for my 260.

        Thoughts?

110 Controlled chaos, 110 gr, 2635 from my howa, >1000 [edit -100 is not very much!!!] ft-lb out to 300.
Of course, the 123 sst I load goes >1000 out to 375... ballistically the 123 is the sweet spot.
You have lots of choices in the 110-123 range...

edit - both bullets, the list is for > 1000 ft-lb.

I would start with the CFE223. Found a starting load
              Bl-c2 29.7 max 30.8
CFE223 CCI 41 MAX 30.0 no starting load you will have to work up to it.

                I would use CFE223. Don't go past 30.4gr.

Work up from a start load of 27.0gr in .3gr increments, no more.

We have data in the Grendel Handbooks for it but with 8208XBR, AA2520, W748, AR Comp, and TAC.

The Tipped TSX intrudes into the power column more when loaded to mag-compatible COL.

The regular TSX boat tail gives you more powder capacity to work with since it doesn't have the blue tip.

In Grendel, I like the TSX better for that reason.

You could also look at the Lehigh 110gr Controlled Chaos as well. More speed, much lower expansion threshold, a little less recoil.
