    Is Hornady brass safe?

I have now accumulated 300 pcs of new Hornady brass, but I am afraid to start loading it. Every where I look at reviews of new Hornady Grendel brass one or more reviewers claim that a many as one in six pieces fail catastrophically on the first firing. I am aware that there are people who post false negative reviews for various reasons. If their clams are true, would't excess headspace be a more likely culprit than faulty brass? My rifle has a tight chamber/headspace from measuring factory ammo before and after firing with the Hornady headspace gauge thingy. Opinions, Please, I want to believe it is O.K., but I do not want to destroy my new rifle either.

I have six loading on around 350 pieces of Hornady Grendel brass and have never had even one failure. I just recently retired the stuff because the primer pockets seem to be getting loose.

I don't want to be anywhere near the guy who's having a one in six failure ratio. There's something seriously wrong with his technique or equipment. I seriously doubt it's the brass.

I have reloaded some of my Hornady brass 9 times foy my Grendel and now that is about all I use. Sounds like someone has a bad chamber or excessive headspace.

Sounds like someone is posting false information. I’ve got 300 cases, some with 5-6 reloading, and not even so much as a split neck. If those claims you saw were true, there would be a true groundswell of pressure on that reputable company to solve it.

O.K., thanks guys, I just wanted to give an opportunity to anyone that had problems and was reluctant to speak up. I sometimes wonder about people and their need for whatever they need by making false negative comments.

Popeye212, I usually deal with Midway USA, Midsouth Shooters Supply, and Graf and Sons, Midway and MIdsouth Shooters Supply have reviews of their items for sale. I have seen the same negative comments on other sites, but I cannot remember which ones at this time. If this is not a rampant problem, then I am just going to ignore the reviews and get on with my load development. I do have about a hundred or so once fired Hornady black that I can use If I run into problems. Somewhere I read/heard that it is best to start a load development project with new brass?

Thank you for the offer to help, Us Grrrr members must stick together. The Grendel Hoard against the World!

This past weekend, I've been looking for a replacement water heater. I soon decided if I look at the worst reviews first, there are no water heaters worthy of My money.

This also seems true for the shooting sports suppliers.

So, in dealing with reviews, I compare the number of good and bad, and play the odds.

I like to read reviews and they are everywhere these days. It would be great if all those reviews were written by people who were fair and unbiased, and knowledgeable with that product and the competition.

But that's not the case. Who bothers to write reviews? Generally people who are pissed off because they feel abused in some way...that's just (unfortunately) human nature.
You'll never hear from the millions of people who find Hornady brass works perfectly and lasts a long time, those people won't bother to write a review.

I laugh when someone has a problem with something everyone knows works well. It's on him and he needs to figure out why he is having a problem.
On another forum a guy was complaining that all Ruger 10/22s are junk because he's had two that wouldn't function flawlessly. I asked him if he was aware that there are over 5 million of those rifles out there that no one is complaining about.

Never heard of any regular Hornady grendel brass issues.
I have had some cases separate from the head at around 6-8 firings, bit its entirely MY FAULT.
I use cheap sizing dies and shoot over max loads, so no surprise.

Got that many also at least. Reason I have been discarding them is the primer pockets getting loose. Impressions that I have gotten on the Hornady brass is that it tends to be soft. The Grendel is so easy on brass from what I have seen I wouldn't expect a problem from new brass. Send em

I have reloaded for about 46 years. I also reload for Mid Range (600) and Long Range (1000) Rifle matches. I have a lengthy process I use. That is a story for another time. There is no problem using your once fired brass, especially if it was fired in your chamber. Make sure you process your new brass through your sizer die. Don't depend on it being sized right out of the box.

Good luck. I am sure you will get lots of help on here.
