    Recommend What Size Ammo Boxes?

Looks like I’m falling off the wagon again and getting back into the reloading game after kicking the habit some 30 years ago.

Can anyone recommend some 50 & 100 round ammo boxes that will keep spent brass in place when the box gets flipped upside down?

Will 223/5.56 boxes work, are the slots wide enough to accommodate the Grendel?

    Thanks.

I'm geared up to reload for it as well and was wondering the same.

I safe the empty box's of factory grendel ammo to hold my empty brass and handloads. Plus I have several empty ammo box's from PF from ammo I ordered from them over the years. Their box holds 50 rounds.

Quart sized Ziploc bags work good for storing empty cases as well.

95% of my brass is from Hornady American Gunner ammo cans or their 50 round boxes, the ones with the crappy styrofoam trays. I would like to use ammo boxes to store and transport live rounds and keep track of what is what.

In a kinda related question does anyone know which collet for the Hornady headspace gauge to use with the Grendel? The instructions on mine I bought a few years back don't list it if I recall correctly.

I can't remember the number but check Midway USA website. I got the ones for 7.62x39 which are 50 round. These work great. Before I got them I tried stuffing cotton in each slot of a 308 box to raisethe case up far enough to keep them from falling out with the lid closed . It worked but not as good as the other.

For the ammo boxes use MTM Case-Gard #RSS50. (Frankfort Arsenal #512 will fit them too, but their hinges will break pretty quick).
For the headspace guage use the #350 collet.

Yeah I ordered 10 of them don't like them because of the hinges. Besides breaking they are a pain.

I use Frankfork Arsenal 512 blue 50 round boxes and have a couple of green Cabela’s 243/308 boxes # 49 that appear to be the same size as Frankford 512’s.

                        Harpoon,

5.56 MTM's work, as long as you store them upside down. The shoulders are supported by the internal frame and each other so the tips are suspended and protected. That's how I store them. The Grendel case is too fat to fit right-way up.

                        Bronson,

the .350 is the correct collet however any collet that sits somewhere on the shoulders will work. Those Hornady collets are never exactly .350 anyway. Anything that fits roughly halfway on the shoulders like an old .357 handgun case, or a 9mm (.354") works.

                          Alright, lots of options.

                          Thank you.

I use the 50 round mtm boxes. I added some good foam inside the lid to keep the rounds from rattling. They won't fall out if you don't use the foam
