My INITIAL shots were with the Hornady SST factory load and very disappointing. I had placed 6 sheets of paper making two Rows three wide. I couldn't get 3 shots on the same piece of paper. This was the same issue that I had with the BCA 24" upper. Then I switched to Wolf firing 5 shots into about 2.5" group. 3 touching with 1 high and right, the other high and left. Much better than the BCA did. I had waited to try the Hornady ELD match ammo because I don't have much and didn't want to waste it during "break in" which is really just my first shots (I don't bother with a proper break in procedure). The wind picked up and I rushed 5 shots under 2". Then I slowed down and shot 2 more 3 shot groups of the SST load which were around 8" each. I adjusted my scope off the earlier groups and another Wolf 3 shots ended up putting 2 touching and the 3rd landed about 1 1/4" off to the left. Finally, I shot 3 of the ELD match and had under 3/4" group. Just to get a little more brass, I fired a few more SST and again, couldn't keep them on one sheet of paper.
I'm 100% positive that I can get sub MOA 10 shot groups with this upper, and I am pretty sure that I can get at least decent groups with the SST by handloading. I've never had a Hornady bullet that I couldn't make fly right, but the factory load is by a huge margin, the absolute worst shooting ammo of any kind, any caliber, in any gun. We've all experienced a flyer now and then, but every single shot was a flyer in some direction and no two of over 20 shots were anywhere near another.
I would definitely recommend someone that is considering a BCA or other budget upper to consider Diamondback. It doesn't like the SST factory load, but it is shooting much better than the BCA with wolf and ELD-M loads. While BCA is trying to figure out how to fix their upper, I'm going to be hunting with my Diamondback.
