    Taking moly coating off coated bullets

    Howdy All

    Semi follow up on my other tread;

    Just as the title says, has anyone tried taking moly coating off coated bullets?

    Thinking of either dry tumble or stainless pins with dawn.

    I have a box of moly bullets I bought on accident. Let us know what works, I'd like to shoot them without the coating.

      Use a vibrating tumbler with Lyman brass polisher

      Tumble in rotary tumbler with rice

            Tossed them in tumbler with stainless pin, good squirt of dawn, 1/4 teaspoon of Lemon Shine and hot water. 45 minutes later no more Moly.

              Just how bad is it to shoot a couple hundred bullets that are Moly coated? What is the downside?

                Cleaning the stuff out of your barrel can be hard according to some people. I had almost 900 bullets, so didn't want to deal with that!

                  Does it effect anything negatively? Seems it would not matter much.

                    It can cause rust to form so it does matter. It can also leave lumpy deposits in the bore that can create pressure issues. I don't think its extremely common but it does happen. You can look up the issues with Moly in other places. Unless you run it all the time I think its bad to run it. Swap the coated bullets for uncoated.....someone should be interested in doing that?
