    New Barnes Tac-TX 6.5mm offering

I was perusing the Barnes Bullet website and found the following:

A new Barnes Tac-TX 6.5mm 115 grain #31142. No load details or BC data as yet. But it looks to be directed towards the Grendel at that bullet weight. Love or hate the Barnes TX bullets, more choice for Grendel users is better than less.

Pioneering the world's most effective all-copper hunting bullet. For over 30 years, we've been engineering the most advanced hunting bullets, trusted by the world's best hunters and shooters.

So it's a 15 grain heavier ttsx with the same 2000 fps lower expansion limit.

Are we could look at it this way it's a 5 grain less 120 grain ttsx with the same 2000 fps lower expansion limit.

Don't get me wrong I like Barnes bullets. Love the ttsx and tac-tx but they need to get with the program and anneal it and give it a 1600 fps lower expansion limit like the LRX line and the Maker Trex bullets have.

From what I've read the Tsx have the 2000 opening velocity. The TTsx have a redesigned cavity and the poly tip that makes them an 1800 opening minimum... Now I don't want to use the 1800 as my minimum; but the picture shows a poly tip on this new one also... Might like this new one in my creed.

"Double diameter" expansion would certainly be more impressive than the TTSX bullets at Grendel velocities, IMO

                I didn't say it wasn't.
It would be nice to see one of their LRX bullets in 100 grains.

That would be very nice. I had talked to a tech at Barnes earlier this year are late last year can't remremember when and he said they were working on it.

For the time being I'm just running the Maker Trex bullets. Few dollars more for 50 bullets but they have a much lower expansion limit and higher b.c. then the Barnes does.

                    A5Blaster,

Barnes already makes bullets that will expand down to 1300 FPS (110 & 120 grain TAC-TX 300 Blackout Bullets). We just need to keep pestering them to make a 6.5mm bullet with a bigger & deeper hollow point and cover it with a bigger plastic tip for the Grendel like they did for the Black Tipped Blackout bullets.

Since their bullets all need the speed, it would be good across the board for them to redesign and lower the opening minimum.

129 grain Nosler ABLR. 1300 fps MIOV
(Minimum Impact Opening Velocity). Run this across a ballistics calculator at 2300 fps. 1000foot pounds at 500 yards, good for midwestern whitetail . 1300 fps @ 800 yards!

Yes but No. Close but no cigar. The Nosler 129 gr ABLR launched @ 2300 Fps retains 1,000 ft lbs to 300 yds (not 500) , and yes crosses the 1300 fps threshold @ 750 yds. (but that's close enough). But overall it still looks good, and is worth a 2nd look for the Grendel, at a weight that at first blush looks too heavy for the Grendel, but yet it's not......Thanks

Im using Ziess ballistic calcuator and they are showing 1000 foot pounds at 500 yards. Not sure why the difference.

Change to imperial in the upper right hand corner.

JBM agrees with the 1000foot pounds at 300 yards.
