if the cows out in the field cooperate today i will try again at 1000+ that was the plan yesterday but 823 was the furthest i could get out from the gong without putting cows between me and it
i also forgot to post the group picture yesterday which is this one , not the best but never are when im shooting threw the chrono all theese have been done standing shooting off a flat bed truck

anyone got recommendations for a lighter bullet good for long range stuff ? so far ive just stuck with the eld-m cause well they have worked great , but i wouldnt mind trying out a lighter bullet is it worth giving up the bc for 200 or so fps ?

My Rap dose quite well with the Nosler 90 Varmageddon. BC .340, velocity around 2900. I would like to try them at long range in the spring.
Check out how they do with a ballistic calculator and they look pretty good.
First test of the Varmageddon in the Rap. I like them. :) I was expecting more velocity that what was measured for 8208 xbr, so next time I'll try a variety of powders. They did better than my first test of the Speer 90 TNT.

Pretty economical at around .20 each

                  1100+ yards same load 28.3g ppv hornaday brass , cc1 #400 eld-m 123g

think the battery in my laser is going dead cause it wouldnt read anything over 103x yards but i knew i was behind my 1100 yard marker so i just left the 1011y reading in my scope from the laser and held over , on target in 2 shots
this is about the limit for the atn xsight hd as u can see in the video , so to stretch out any further ill have to put my glass back on or put the atn x-sight 4k pro 5-20 back on it
will probably be the 4k pro till i get an adapter so i can take video threw my glass scope

and picture looking back twards were i was shooting from when i ran up to paint the gong ( should have painted it before hand )

shooting position was to the left and back of the close tress in the center of the pic to the left side , if i drop back to the far tress its just shy of 2 miles of range

if you look in the recent edition of the Sierra manual Alliant's PPV is the or one of the top velocity listed powders for the 6.5 Grendel. in the 15th Speer it's also right up there. in my 22" howa i've been getting great velocities.

for Sierra's 85gr. HP they list 33.8 of APPV for 3050 fps (assuming they're using a 24" tube). since i was running a bolt gun i rounded to 34gr. and got 2904 to 2949 the other day (40F). in the summer time (july - 80F) it runs from 2962 to 3100.

Sierra lists there 123gr. HPBT matchking at 2550 with 29.2gr. of APPV. and i checked, yep 24" universal receiver. and these would be SAAMI pressure level loads that Sierra lists.

Speer also uses a 24" barrel 1-8 and say SAAMI spec is 52K PSI (no CUP established). they're seeing 2483 with 27.3 gr. of APPV with their 120gr. Gold Dot Rifle. so i've been please with APPV with the 85gr. Sierra varmint bullet so far, and have some 130gr. ELD-M loaded up but have yet to get a chance to run them.

from my data you can see there is some temp dependence that i've noted. ymmv of course, and there are many useful powders for the Grendel. but so far i'm liking what i'm seeing with APPV with respect to velocity.

tommorow i get to try out the midsouth monster match bullets hoping they shoot well , i think im going to order up some 107g tmk's to try out as well
swapping the 4k pro onto my grendel as its much better suited to 1000y+ in a 20 inch target

Ran a small qty of 123gr Nosler CC?s at 62d and 1200 ft altitude. 28.5gr PPV, CCI 41 primer, 2.26? OAL. 5@2413 avg, 6.2 SD. Not the velocity I was expecting, but good chrono numbers.

my grendel does not apear to like the mid south monster match bullets
                            first round group of 5

                            second group of only 4

28.3g ppv 123g midsouth mm bullet , hornaday brass cci #400 2.250 oal

on the other hand the 6.5 cm shot the best it ever has using the same load ive been using witht he eld-m's in it

so im going to order a 500 pack of the mid south stuff for the cm but ill snag a few more to play with in the grendel to see if i cant improve the group before i buy any more eld-m'd for the grendel , that 250count bag of them i just bought should last me atleast a lil while

chrono data for 5 rounds out of the grendel was
                            2480
                            2482
                            2491

quick question if u leave the load the same and increase oal but pick up roughly 80fps what does that mean? I loaded to max mag length today rounds chamber and extract unfired without issues without leaving marks on the bullets accuracy increased a lil bit as well

Your pressure increased slightly because the bullet is starting much closer to the rifling now.

Only two things increase velocity. Powder charge and having the jump close too the lands are touching them.

This is why you need the tools to accurately measure each bullets jump.
