May have found a new precision load for my AA Overwatch 24" Shilen

Alliant Power Pro 2000 MR
After looking at Speer's 120 Gold Dot data for the Grendel, I noticed that it outpaced all the other powders by a substantial margin.

I had some new, unfired AA (Lapua) brass primed with Wolf SR primers. Using the Speer data for a rough guide, I loaded up 3 rounds of 7 different charges behind 123 A-Maxes.

Why 3? Because when looking for an accurate load, if it won't group 3, 2 more won't make it any better. This was just the beginning of the load development.

I'll load up more and chronograph them and start working on my come-ups at a later date, but a 0.381" 3 shot, 100 yard, group definitely shows potential.

edited to add: Charge was 29.5gr and COAL was 2.25

ive tried 2000mr out of my 28" barrel it was accurate as heck but low mv's compared to ar-comp lagging behind by over 200 fps. granted that was starting with a lowish charge wieght but i dont think theres enough headroom to make up for the lack of velocity even at max charge

Brother in law had a knee replacement about 6 month ago, hard painful slogging. Bright side you can do a lot of brass prep!

I'm taking the Grendel to a Scoped AR class at Thunder Ranch in March. I'm loading the last of my A-Max bullets. Sad to see them go.

I've found several guys who have seen an accuracy node with 120-123 class bullets over 2000-MR right around 30g. I just started working some loads and found some good preliminary results around 29.7g. No chrono data yet, just looking at accuracy

Yeah, unfortunately I had a knee replaced 1/21/21, so it'll be a while before I get back into the reloading room or to the range
