Working up some 85gr Sierra Varminters and Norma 202

really interested in this. I was planning to load up some of these 85 gr Sierras with Norma as well, but came away with a great load using AA2200. I had not planned to be at those levels though! I'll be very excited to see what you come up with.

interested in this as well i was goigng to use my 202 with heavies but if it also works well with lightwieghts it openes up some options for me

Loaded up to 30.8 because I started at 29. Can still shake a little powder still so it has more room.

Keep loading up more to 31.8?

Yes but what does a chrono really mean? No published load data, no speed limit per se. I can sort of guesstimate on sierra's data + quickload. Quick load says, fill it until it you can't anymore basically...

If my velocity matches what quickload is showing like it did with 108 scenars.... I'll run out of capacity before hitting max pressure.

Btw I loaded the last 5 to 31 and stopped. Id have to prep a few more cases to load to 32 and I really don't feel like doing that tonight.

To be fair, maybe I can't. Software says I can, but real world results will be more telling. Not getting a chance to hit the range today, will go tomorrow. The weather is predicted to be windy so I'll limit to 100yds over the chrono and blame the wind if groups are terrible.

Holy hell it was gusty today. Almost steady breeze of 10mph and gusts up to 45. Groups did suffer as a result...

Compiling data and will be posting but magic occurred at 30.8 cruising at 2900fps. Sd was 8.14 es 17, group I'm pretty sure would have been awesome if not for wind.

Also zero signs of pressure. Nothing what so ever at all. Time to see if I can stuff 32g into a case.



Notice the chrono is cockeyed? I fixed that after 30gr but that is from the wind and not tight enough mount. Today was the only chance I got this month so it was now or never. Suboptimal results but given the conditions I'm pretty happy.

thank you ive got 20 cases preped and primed with mag primers im going to load some of this same combo tonight ill start at 30.4 and do 4 groups of 5 in .2 increments and see how they do out of my 12 inch gren

29-30gr. 29 top left moving up in .2. Top left, top right center bottom left bottom right in-between bottom left and center (ascending)

30.2-31, same ascending order



5 shot groups obviously, tried to time and judge the wind conditions as best I could but then again I'm not the best shooter or even average imo.

Mel, the behavior I am seeing is, it gets better as the case gets more full. 31gr had case capacity with 2.2 coal, so I pushed them all back to 2.165. At that point there was no more shaking powder at top charge. The 29gr -30gr was a complete waste of time and components. Completed rounds sounded like salt shakers, es, sd were comically bad though I'm not sure if that was my chrono shifting or the loads but I'm pretty sure it's the loads settling in different ways from recoil and stuffs
