    Berger 130 AR OTM vs Hornady 130 ELD Match

    I didn't do a great search, but the 130 OTM with H4895 is one of my main bullets for silhouette competition. With none to be found, I was looking at the Hornady 130 ELDs.

    Does anyone have a good length for the Bergers? I measured a random selection of the ones I have left. Most were 1.32+". JBM has it listed as 1.292. Berger has it at 1.295.

    How does the length on the Hornady compare? JBM has it listed as 1.310.

    It's probably splitting hairs since I'm using a bolt gun, but I wanted to check.

    Hornady 130gr. ELD-M

    Lot # 2192037

    sample of 5 out of the same box -> 1.314", 1.317", 1.313", 1.315", 1.318" accuracy +/- 0.0005" (I rounded to the nearest 0.001" using dial caliper, and the absolute precision of the dial caliper I am using is unknown to me)

    avg => 1.315"

      P.S. what are you using on the 500m Rams?? same bullet/powder? do you shoot the 130s across all 4 target types? do you ring rams often?
      thanks

        I use the 130s with 28.2gr H4895 in my Remington 700. I don't have a good velocity idea. I am about 85% on the ones that I hit for them falling. It might actually be a bit higher %age than that. I think that this is a great bullet for the game since it's a 130 that is slightly shorter than their other bullets. It looks like the 130 eld is basically the same, so I might try that.

        I have about 1.5 boxes of 136/139 scenars. I do think that those would be going too slow, but it would be interesting to try.

        To answer your other question I used the 100 eld with the same charge this year on chickens and pigs...sometimes turkeys. But, I'm considering 1 load for simplicity. I've also got several boxes of the 108 scenar which I've used with varget...works well enough for this.

        I'd have to check a ballistic calculator to see how it compares to the guys using the 115s or 108ish grainers with the 6br. I've rang some with my creedmoor pushing a 139 over about 40 gr H4350, which isn't an overly hot load but it does add up with the number of shots.
