  • 107 Sierra vs. 108 Lapua

Hey guys, just looking at some components while waiting on my barrel and was wondering if any of you guys have a preference b/w the sierra 107 and lapua 108. Ive shot a blue million sierras but never even touched a lapua.thanks in advance.

The lapua bullets have a higher bc and in my samples are a little more consistent for weight but the lapua bullets are quite a bit more expensive but honestly tween the two I would hate to have to live on the diffence if your going to shoot them past 600m go with the lapua, otherwise you probably won't see much diffence between them
    Punctuation is for the weak....

      RS:

You will probably find the Lapua's to be more forgiving in terms of jump. At least, that was the consensus on the last forum when guys were comparing both bullets.

And, based on a lengthy discussion on the last forum with guys comparing Lapua's published BC's with actual results, the guys thought that there was no difference between the Lapua 123 and Sierra 123, the Lapua 108 and the Sierra 107 at longer ranges. Difference meaning a significant change in elevation for each respective bullet with identical loads. If the Lapua needed for example, five minutes of elevation between X and Y ranges, the Sierra needed close enough to the same so as to make both pretty much equal.

Another thing with the Lapua Scenars is that you don't need to mess with BC's. Download Lapua's Quick Target Unlimited to your phone, and you now have doppler radar data for the Scenars, which will put you within a gnat's eyelash at any range you intend to shoot the Grendel. It places the .338 LM within a few cm at 1300m.

Is there a version for iPhone/Mac you're aware of? Lapua site shows it's only adaptable for use on windows based systems.

The free Lapua version is only available for Windows-based systems currently, and QTU (German-owned) is also only available for Windows-based systems as well.

You can download Ballistic: Field Tactical to your iPhone from the app store. It is based on JBM calculations and also has Brian Litz data which is doplar radar based BC's. Just select the bullet version from the pull down that indicates Litz.

Brian Litz data is the next I recommend and personally use as well with the free Berger Ballistics program. That Berger program is very easy to use.

The Sierra 107 grainers will also give you better velocity as it is a bit shorter in length vs. the 108 gr Scenar...The Sierras are also less expensive.
The Lapuas may have a slight edge in accuracy at longer ranges, they may be a little more forgiving depending on your chamber throat length...

There's a forum member who shot a 7.27" group with the 108gr Scenars at 987yds from a JP 22" Grendel, which is pretty impessive if you think about it.

Here is some very interesting Info about the Shooter App for iOS/Android devices. The developers are Sean Kennedy, An unnamed Berger Bullet's Ballistician, and Bryan Litz.

A link to the shooter website Shooter!

+1 on the shooter app wild. I downloaded to my wifes kindle fire and it is very accurate the little I have used it. The bonus with the kindle is I can read romance novels in between shot strings! LOL
