Well it finally happened: I ran out of my stockpile of 123gr A-Max bullets. As far as I can tell they are discontinued. I had a consistently sub-moa load for my favorite rifle that I've used for many years. I had been using 27.1gr of 8208 XBR. But alas, all good things must eventually come to an end.

I bought a box of 123gr ELD-M and loaded them with the same powder charge and it does not shoot well. So I need to work up a new load. My hornady manual is too old to have the ELD-M bullet in it. Does anyone know what Hornady says the max powder charge of 8208 XBR is with the 123gr ELD-M?

Thanks. I wonder why. 8208 seems like a very common powder.

I've had some lots of Xbr top out at 27.4, so be watchful.
I was watching a vid on internal ballistics and they made an excellent point: velocity isn't free.
When you start to see similar MV to book loads, regardless of your powder charge, you need to stop b/c that's at max pressure. Pressure relates directly to MV (well, area under the curve but for a single powder, Press/MV)

Hmm... that could be why Hornady doesn't list data for it. Anyway, I can set up the labradar and take data.

I think you will find STAball a bit slow for the Grendel others have. Use the custom search tool on here and you can find a few threads about it.

Have you tried CFE223 or Ramshot TAC with the VMax ? I have those powders and 100 of the bullets. Looking for a starting place.
I also have 200 of the PPU Prvi 120 g BTHP I'd like to get going with.

27.5gr TAC and 28gr Varget are my best loads for the 123gr SST. 2.245" C.O.L. CCI #41 primers. Either Starline or Hornady brass.

My new hunting load is 29.9gr. of BL-C2 and 130gr. Sierra Gamechanger. in rifle I am on at 100yrds and one inch low at 200yrds both under 1 moa. The Gamechanger hits like a 2 ton truck and as deadly as any round I have ever hunted with in any caliber.

By far the best i've done with these bullets tried various powders(h335,8208,RL15) and various seating depths. Many other combo's were terrible.
