    Scored Some Grendel Ammo Today

    I have been looking for ammo since the panic last year, with no luck, even on-line. Every time it came into stock on one of the websites, it was gone by the time I had a chance to place an order.

    Stopped into the Academy Sports in Pasadena, Texas this afternoon, and they had six boxes of Hornady Amax 123 Gr. I bought two, thought I would leave a little in case someone like me is hunting for ammo. Didn't want to be selfish!

    I don't think the Amax bullet is the best deer round in the Grendel, but I did take my last deer with that round, and it was like a lightning bolt. Didn't have an exit wound, but lots of internal damage. Either way, I'm glad to have the ammo, and more cases if I go back to reloading.

    I picked up 5 boxes of SST's at Academy in Jacksonville, Fl a few weeks ago. They had 8-10 boxes left. I haven't seen anything at the other stores.

      Well, guess I should pay more attention! Got home and discovered that they are really 123 Gr SST's. I would have rather had them, probably should have bought all six boxes! I will save my remaining Amax rounds for the coyotes and feral dogs, use the SST's for deer.

        Back in the day when Alexander Arms said they had thousands of rounds of ammo, I order 500 rounds of Wolf MPT. That was 12 months ago and still no joy. This might be the caliber that finally motivates me to learn to reload.

          Yeah, come to think of it, next week marks the 1 year anniversary of my ordering 5 boxes of Wolf from AA. Should be here any day....

            do you think AA will be better when they move and hire more people? They haven't helped the grendel cause much lately!

              I wouldn't presume to know. I don't blame AA for being unable to fill the order. They can only sell what they can get their hands on. No one else has the 120 MPT either. On a happier note, I bought 140 rounds of Amax today at a gun show in Portland. I have enough ammo now for LRRPF52's Designated Marksman course this spring.

                    Academy here has 129sst and I've been back twice and I'm only one buying it. Twenty three and change a box. I'm trying to leave some for others but other than me doesn't seem to be any takers.

                      I picked up 2 boxes of 123gr SST at Academy in Knoxville, TN today. They have about 10 more boxes.

                        I called them and they do not ship, guess that's why they have some. No stores in VA but when I called, there are 5 stores in GA, near relatives close to Atlanta, that had about 30 boxes between them. I was going to have someone go make runs but never transpired and just got reloading.

                        I really with Hornady would get more inventory moving but what we want and what we get is not always the same thing.
