    Rainier Arms Ultra Match Barrel

Hey guys, Ive been out for a while with the busy work season. Now that it is over I am looking to build a new grendel and have had my eye on the Ranier Arms ultra match barrel for a while. There have been a few threads in the past about this barrel but no one sharing any actual experience. Does anyone have one of these and have any results to share as far as quality and accuracy? I may have to be the test mule for it. The other option I am looking at is having BHW make me a 22" tube just because I love the barrel I already have from them but what a heavier profile and longer barrel but I really want a true Grendel chamber this time out.

I've got a 16" Rainier Select Match barrel on my 300BLK, like it very much. Very accurate, I shoot silhouettes at 300 yards with a red dot 1x sight. Feed ramps nicely made, no feeding issues, chamber is spot-on, gas block was snug fit with no slop before tightening.

Not a true Grendel barrel. I returned mine for this reason.

Really? So is it a 264lbc or a Grendel II? Man this is huge, thank you for that info. I definitely am not paying that price for one without a true grendel chamber.

How did you find out it was not a true Grendel?

IIRC they copped to it over on TOS.

Sorry, you lost me on the acronyms...I'm thinking you mean, they admitted it when you asked them.

I copied this off Rainier's site. There is no specific information about a head spaced bolt but Rainier sell JP 6.5 Grendel enhanced bolt. The Rainier barrel is pricey even if it is a Shilen blank which Rainier machines to their spec.

                    Details
Introducing our 6.5 Grendel barrel using the finest blank (Shilen). Our goal is to mass produce them to bring them to market at the most competitive prices. Our UltraMatch Barrels start out as Shilen blanks and contoured to our specifications. We wanted the best balance between accuracy while keeping the weight down as much as possible.

                    Features:

Stainless Steel Match Grade Shilen Blank
                    Length: 22"
                    Twist: 1:8
                    Gas Block Seat: .875 Diameter
                    Thread Pitch: 5/8X24
                    6.5 Grendel Rainier Match Chamber
                    Rifle Gas System
                    Ratchet 4 groove
                    M4 Feed Ramps
                    Proprietary Contour
                    Bead Blasted Finish
                    Weight: 3 lbs 10.2 oz

The best thing to do when shopping for a barrel and wanting the sammi chamber.

Is to look at their specs and if they don't list it as sammi spec chamber it is not a true grendel barrel chambered to sammi specs like Bill designed.

Hope this helps, if you want a sammi chamber buy one listed as sammi chambered.

I really don't understand the controversy about the throats of all these different grendels. Is there really that much of a difference?

I dont mind the 264 LBC chamber as my rifle with this chamber is very accurate. The problem is you have to use the 7.62x39 bolt which is weaker and more prone to failing than the true grendel bolt.

Rickc, my problem is that when someone has the above setup and for example breaks a bolt. The first thing they they do is jump on the old interwebs and start a thread titled "6.5 Grendel broke bolt". But in actuality it is not a 6.5 Grendel and my fear is it could/has give the round a bad reputation undeservedly thus affecting the value of my real 6.5 Grendels.

I'm just using the bolt as an example but it could be any of the issues posted here with regard to any of the non-saami chambers.

It also chaps me when vendors say it's a Grendel chamber but when factory rounds won't chamber they finally admit that they used a different reamer. Example what satern did with the liberty group buy barrels.

Knowing everthing isnt as important as knowing where to find it.

Explain the bolt thing. I have a JP grendel barrel and bolt.

Is my barrel a true grendel?

Is my bolt a true grendel bolt?

Why can't you use a real grendel bolt with the other chambers? It is the same case.
