It really depends on how and where your going to use your 6.5 Grendel. The 16" and 18" barrels are great if your in tight quarters (hunting in brush, CQB, mountainous terrain) and for hunting with shots shorter than 350-400 yards. If your primarily hunting from a stand or blind and doing much bench shooting then 20"-24" weight are not as much of a handicap. On average going from 16" to 20" you gain between 80 and 100 FPS. Going from 20" to 24" you gain about 80 FPS.

I have both 16" and 20" 6.5 Grendels and like and use both. A Friend has an 18" and 24" 6.5 Grendel. He's taken antelope in Wy at over 500 yards with his 24" 6.5 Grendel and reloads using Nosler 120 grain BT. He is a very skilled long range shooter but he decided he wanted a shorter lighter 6.5 Grendel and built an 18" last year.

Another Friend has an 18" 6.5 Grendel and he was able to make hits at 900 + meters with the help of a sniper Friend. First time he'd ever shot further than 300 yards. This was in the midwest at lower elevation and both were impressed by the 6.5 Grendels performance.

Here is a link to a chronograph session where 16,18,20 & 24 inch 6.5 Grendels with the same lots of ammo in each barrel.

A Friend and I conducted a chronograph test today with our 6.5 Grendel AR-15's and a Magneto Speed Chronograph. The temperature was 76 degrees, overcast skies, Barometric Pressure 30.05, Humidity 78 %, Dew Point 68 Degrees at 350' ASL. We shot at paper targets set at approximately 110 yards. The first 6.5 Grendel was a
