steel charging handles yea or nea?

If anyone's had the bad fortune of a stuck case you'll know why I'm asking...
I currently have 4 PTFE (teflon) coated receivers and two AP NOFA's and probably going to get two billet ano'd uppers for the DMR's and hopefully get the ano's micro slicked @ some point. I've heard these steel CH's can wear out the grooves faster but I'm not sure if i buy it.

    SIDE NOTES:
Why doesn't someone just glue thin .005" thick shim stock/feeler gage strips or channels in there? I'm positive theres a glue for that. Especially seeing how its teflon imprego'd. Or maybe go standard park'd and just micro slick the CH as well as rec.? FWIW i use moly dry lubes, powders, and my fav. CRC synth. Disc brake lube... Smells a little like a tractor but i swear it's the bomb! Its graphite, moly, and PTFE all the good stuff. And its super high temp. You already trust your life with it even if you dont know it!

Didn't have the gas opened enough to let the bolt come free from the extention, it happened when I first built my upper and I was setting the gas started off to low.

Mine is from cheap tulammo 5.45 steel case with the grey dry lube. The mil spec 7n6 cases dont have any issues at all. I HAVE hesrd of the alum CH breaking although rare. And probably on cheap ones at that. But i did have to rough mine up quite a bit... And if i upgrade one I'd prefer steel. With the smaller badger ordnance latch not the one in the link. I don't plan on having this issue again but then you never do...

Still waiting for someone to make reloadable 5.45 nice cases i can stock up on and reload.
and FYI its a Adams Arms piston upper which i like so far. Got it for a steel of a deal too.

If you go with Al on the charging handle, get 7075 and "hard coat" anodized. Some folks use 6061 and decorative black anodize. If you use the charging handle much, the hard coat inside the upper can wear through the thin decorative anodize on the handle stem and create ugly bright metal scratches down to base metal on the charging handle, and build up operating friction from thereon.

i can not see any reason to use a steel charging handle and no reason to NOT use one either.

right now DSA has the nickel-teflon coated CHs for $19 each IIRC--

PS the link goes to a BCG-- but the CH is easy to find on their site.

                You don't need it.

Generally speaking, the charging handle will be cycled much less than the bolt carrier does when firing. Remember the carrier is steel on aluminum and no one considers that a problem, so I don't think a steel charging handle would be an issue.
