    BCA problem barrel...

Just wanted my own thread on this as so much bad press for BCA.

Contacted Classic Firearms about my short throated BCA barrel, I bought from them. They in turned contacted BCA, and they contacted me. I explained the short throat issue, and they provided a return label. They seem to be low on barrels, and gave me a choice of 3. I picked a "like" barrel. By like, I mean, another

Not to ADD to that, but I bought a 20" stainless spiral flute from Primary Arms last month. I shot the rifle but had installed the wrong main spring so it would not cycle, so I put it away that trip. Next week I replaced the spring with a brandy new Wolffe unit and the rifle shot OK, but as it was not broken in I was not worried. (It was shooting about 2" @ 50 yards, ONE loading 107 sierra) Well, when I went to try other ammo... no go, then I tried more again, no go. I measured it, it appeared fine. I loaded it in my HOWA Grendel and it fired fine. I then had a buddy with a G,try a round of each in his rifle and again, it fired fine. It would not chamber in my barrel. Stopped 1/8-3/16 from locked up.

Looks like I have a short chamber. GRRR

I emailed Primary arms and they quickly replied. Then sent a fed ex label wanting the barrel back asking what I wanted to do. I requested a exact replacement. I pulled it off last night and will ship back to Texas today.

Kudos so far to Primary Arms customer service!

    Wish me luck!

Luck to you. If they just pick another barrel out of stock and send it to you it will probably be from the same run of barrels and you will be in the same predicament and have just wasted time and more money in ammo and gas to the range and back. I would call BCA direct and get a pick up ticket sent to you and send it back to them and really specify that they take the time to CHECK THE BARREL FOR PROPER SPECK. I have been through this and have the T-shirt, NO MORE BCA ANYTING FOR ME. I did finally get a huntable shooting barrel but it took a bunch of shooting to get it to group and a BUNCH of load work up with different stuff to find what it will shoot. I have a few loads now that will shoot just under 1". My barrel I ended up with was the 20" fluted 5R SS. By the way I purchased mine as a complete upper from Primary Arms and when I called them about it they said "sorry, but you have to send it to BCA." Good luck to you.

      Thanks 1shot.

YES, I did think of this. I mentioned it to the guy in the email. He did not reply to that, just expressing apologies for the problems and the RA ticket numbers and "Any thing else we can do" yada yada yada. I have time, I am on there dime and ammo, heck I like shooting and loading so now worries there.

IF I have another problem, I will do exactly as you say and will have shown I TRIED to work within the system.

The barrel is all boxed, (Tubbed"?) and ready to ship later today.

      UPDATES as they occur.

It sure would be interesting to see chamber casts from all these problem barrels. I wonder if they are cut short, or cut crooked like mine was.

I saw Primary Arms carries Ballistic Advantage barrels that would be an excellent trade.

Seen arm or ally had a dang good sale on those barrels last night thinking of dropping the hammer on one of their 20 inch hear fluted models myself.

Ive been through it as well with BCA for me its several barrels that have white corrosion exploding from around the barrel extension and the locating pin. It is fairly aggravating. But BCA, PA, and A or A all hage excellent customer service.

                    Thanks again guys.

Barrel went back Friday, On there dime.

I'll be accepting another of the same. I will check it out as best I can before installing and post back up.

I do not mind doing this. I look at it this way, its more weight to my "case" should I have a second issue. Its not my only iron to play with.
I will look into those ballistic advantage barrels. but first thought was to request BCA be contacted. Unsure, but one step at a time. Might be just fine with replacement.

Unsure how much time this will take, I guess a week or two? I find everything I ship into or out of Texas goes into slow motion. Its 4-5 days once in or out of Texas.

Sorry for your loss, I would have ditched and run with the current state of affairs of what seems to be consistently coming out of their shop.

                      Wish you luck on rd-2

I have a BCA 18" barrel that I purchased from Classic Firearms last September. My bad for not checking it before now, it has a short throat also. Dang. I'm now looking at a Faxon or Ballistic Advantage as a replacement, I just can't decide which one.

Interesting, just purchased a upper from BCA which came with three cases supposedly fired in it, they look fine, I have two friends with them that are well pleased and report good accuracy (sub MOA) with Horn. Black 123's. Time will tell. I'm only an hours drive away from their shop.

I received two emails today from Primary Arms.

My barrel is shipping or did ship today.

You might try reaming the throat yourself to salvage the situation. A throat reamer is $50 from Manson. This may only apply to stainless steel barrels. I don't know about reaming the hard-coated barrels.
