FieldSport (eBay) Carbon Fiber Handguard Review

I recently purchased a FieldSport carbon fiber handguard off of eBay. This was the exact one I got: https://www.ebay.com/itm/7-2-Carbine.../153139664911?

For less than $50 shipped I figured it was worth taking a chance on. I have since received my handguard and installed it on my 12.5" 6.5G pistol. I'm trying to keep this gun as light as practical and that is what motivated me to look for a carbon fiber handguard in the first place. So far my initial impressions of the handguard are very favorable.

The handguard is 7.2" long and weight including the barrel nut, top rail, and end cap is 6.5 oz. If you omit the end cap and top rail it drops the weight down to 4.85 oz.

The carbon tube has a pretty thin wall thickness (not surprisingly), which I was a bit concerned about at first. However once its installed and with the end cap on it stiffens it up quite a bit. I still wouldn't beat on it unnecessarily and if you have a rifle that you plan on putting a lot of heavy accessories on this might not be the right handguard for you. However if you want to keep weight (and cost) down as much as possible this should be more than adequate for mounting a light or angled grip to. The tube attaches to barrel nut using a system I hadn't seen before. There is a trapezoidal groove in the barrel nut that small nuts slide into at one spot on the circumference. From there screws going through the tube an into those small nuts. This allows the tube to be rotated to any position relative to the barrel nut and avoids the need to use things like shims under the barrel nut (I hate having to shim the barrel nut). When you tighten down the four screws the tube is locked to the barrel nut very solidly. I should have taken pictures of the barrel nut and related parts, but unfortunately I did not.

Here are some pics of the handguard after it was installed.

I think it looks pretty decent and we all know that if nothing else, your gun needs to look cool. The slots cut in the sides and bottom are M-Lok style which should allow the attachment of whatever you want.
As well the handguard also includes a number of shorter rail pieces.

I haven't taken the gun out to shoot it with the new handguard yet, but based on what I've seen so far I wouldn't hesitate to purchase this handguard again in the future.

Lol, yeah functionality has to come first, or course. But its hard for me to be happy with a firearm if I don't like how it looks.
