    RECCE Build

I have a 6.5G for deer hunting with a 20" carbon fiber barrel that's a little long for ground stalking in the woods. I'm planning a P&W 14" RECCE build with a Xcaliber barrel. Who all has a similar setup and how do you like it?

There have been several 14.5” Lilja group buy barrels recently delivered but I haven’t seen where anyone has done a RECCE clone. If you get your RECCE finished be sure to post pictures and a range report.

14.5" is starting to get a little short for a Recon Rifle. The original spirit was a shorter than DMR length but still reasonable for range. Lilja was chosen to provide barrels in .223Wylde, since for sale to civilians as the 'M4 Navy' - it is 16.8", 0.75" at the port and with carbine length gas.

16"-18" in the Grendel would be an equivalent choice for the medium range, careful shots. If you take away the 20"+ barrels almost everyone on the forum has something resembling a Recon Rifle. A free-floating barrel with a scope and good trigger. Lots of barrels will be cheap-and-cheerful and the scopes too big but the configuration will be close.

I went with the AA 16" lightweight builders kit for mine after lugging around a 20" for a season.
