i'm thinking pencil barrel, but what length?

this will be for hunting. i installed a timney impact trigger on my .223 AR last week, and made my lower hunting capable. so, what length will burn all the powder? maker of a pencil/scout barrel and BCG for my spike's upper?

Powder is burnt in the first 3 to 5 inches of barrel, if not our gas blocks would get clogged with powder after very few shots.

16 or less inches works good with a pencil profile, just don't get it hot are it will start to drift.

I am happy with my 16 inch Faxon Match series Gunner barrel. It has 5R rifling and is SS. If I remember correctly it weighs 1.53 lbs. I can get nickle sized 5 shot groups with Hornady 123 grain SSTs when I do my part right..

thanks, y'all. this would not be a gunning set-up; hunting only with occasional hunting distance shooting sessions , keeping barrel cool ...

Look at the Faxon 18" Gunner. It weighs 1.68 lbs. I have one in .223 Wlyde that shoots well.

I really like my Odin Works lightweight 16" barrel. Very very light. And still pretty good accuracy 1 to 1.5 MOA.
Edit: didn't see that this was 223. Faxon pencil all day.

how far are you wanting to shoot? I have a 16" BA Hanson barrel, it's handy but I kind of wish I had more velocity to get a bit further. If/when I rebarrel it'll probably be an 18" or 20'
