Whitley 6mmar dies for a 6mm Grendel chamber

    Good morning.
    First time poster.
I have a Whitley 6mmar with a set of his dies. Im toying with the idea of building a bolt gun using the PTG 6mm Grendel reamer. I want to use the same dies for both guns. Headspacing wont be an issue because I'm going to use a Remage barrel. Can anyone tell me if my Whitley dies will work with the 6mm Grendel chamber?

    Thanks,
    Bill

Whitley's 6 AR is a Grendel necked down to 6mm. Never heard it named a 6mm Grendel.

I shot a 6 AR Over the Course for a few years. I bought a set of his dies and necked Grendel brass down using the sizing die. Worked fine.

I read the title and thought someone gave their life for 6mm Grendel chamber.

You have no idea how relieved I am that someone else thought the same thing. My first thought was 'What a tragedy!"

I know that there were a lot of problems with PTG reamers for the 6.8 SPC and SPC II.* What have been the problems been with Grendel-related reamers?

              * In particular, a sharp angle at the step-down from the neck to the freebore. There is an error in the 6.8 SPC SAAMI drawing (two numbers transposed, increasing the angle), but many PTG reamers had an even sharper one that sometimes shaved copper rings from bullets and caused pressure issues. PTG eventually corrected the reamer drawing but did not update the "revision date," causing additional confusion.

Actually, it was 6mm ARC that killed off Whitely and 6mm AR.

Trilogymac, the short version of the story is that there is considerable bad blood between PTG and quite a few people, on this forum and others.
                    1) It is thought that PTG made faulty Grendel reamers that in turn produced a bunch of defective (short-throated) barrels.

                    2) The owner of PTG stated that he did not like the Grendel's compound-throat design, an opinion that went over "like a fart in a scuba tank" on this forum.

3). For a while, PTG made a "6.5 Grendel II" chamber that had a traditional throat rather than the more complicated compound-throat used with the SAAMI Grendel.

                    4) PTG's site claimed their chamber was better, which is questionable at best. The PTG website no longer offers it, make of that what you will.

I had managed to forget about the PTG "Grendel II" (non-compound taper throat) brou-haha and the short-throated Liberty and Stoner barrels in 2014. I find this particularly sad because I now remember that I had even started a thread about SAAMI Grendel vs Grendel II loads. (I was Nincomp back then...the forum hack ate my old screen name).
