Anyone have experience with McGowen barrels?

Can't get PF to reply to email and I don't see a way to order their 26"

I can apparently get what I want from McGowen but have no experience with them.

Good? Crap? Crapshoot? Price is right in the ballpark of what I'm looking for too. Looking at the cut rifle option in 1:8 twist +2 gas system.

If PF sees this and engages in wanting to make a sale I'll go that route, however communications appear difficult at the moment.

I have a carbon six on my bolt gun. They are a sister company of McGowen and use McGowen blanks in their barrels. Every bit as good as proof imho, they have hand lapped bores and stress relieved barrels. My bolt gun shoots tacks from day one and doesn't foul at all.

I would have no hesitancy in using a McGowen barrel.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)   Q: I'm not familiar with CarbonSix.  Who are you, and why should I trust your rifle barrels? While CarbonSix is a new brand, we are not new to the carbon fiber barrel market.  We are a sister company to McGowen Precision Barrels.  McGowen has

I had them make me a 6mm Grendel several years ago. The threads damaged the threads of my VG6 Gamma 6.5, the gas port wasn't drilled all the way through and the chamber didn't fully support the case (think Glock).
                Let's go Brandon!

I bought McGowan 6mm ARC Bolt rifle barrel, shoots great so far, lead time was 3 months, and they hit the mark on time line

Ended up going with a krieger. Wait time (quoted) was 30 days, free fluting, 28" varmatch rifle +2 gas system. Another customer canceled an order and I was able to get it. Just waiting on crown and finish chamber + bead blasting.

28" is too long for and AR shooting a Grendel. I think it is too long for a bolt rifle shooting a Grendel. You will not see a quantum improvement in velocity and expect to do more load development to find loads that coincide with the timing of the system. Still won't get the velocity to knock over rams and will have a very awkward AR. That much barrel in front of whatever type of rest you will use will not do you any favors.

I have a Grendel 26" fluted barrel on a Match Rifle and in retrospect should have gone with a 24 inch and a bloop tube. It shoots fine but at 600 it is problematic in winds. Just not enough speed to be competitive. Pretty good at 300 though. I could have had any length barrel I wanted but there comes a point where the few feet per second more in velocity you get is outweighed by a dozen other factors.

Only looking a 9" worth of barrel in front of the bipod. Chamber differences from my current 22" warrant new load development and that is 1/2 the fun + a good excuse to go to the range more often than I do.

I live in California, my AR is already awkward due to compliance with state laws, no escaping it. Might as well strap a whale dick on and have a good laugh.

The expectation isn't to knock over rams consistently, but to just have a best chance at it with the basic rules im limited to. Is there anything better in the AR15 platform for that task @ 550yds? Switching to ar10 would put me in a different "class" of rifle for the local competitions so I'd like to limit myself to the ar15 frame.

I'm not opposed to switching calibers, I'm fairly confident that if I wanted to dump the 28" barrel unfired I would get my money back nearly immediately.

If you were limited to 3000fps + AR15 platform and were tasked to try your damndest to knock over the steel rams @550yds, what would you run? (Genuinely asking for feedback, I know how the innernets can appear)

                            ZE:

I would try my 6 AR with some 115 grain DTAC bullets. If anything, I know I can place my shots better with that 6 AR in winds than with my Grendel Match Rifle.

Haven't done any math on it and if it worked, a whole lot of guys would be using it but since I am not into that sport, I do not know.

Just that I would find out on my own and not at a match, no matter how informal.
