Vltor is another that comes to mind but billet not forged so probably not useful.

^^^ Actually, if you're talking about the Vltor MUR upper, it's forged, not billet. Just made beefer/thicker. Then machined to a high standard where needed. And they're not thermal fit. I have two of them. For both, the barrels slipped in without much fuss. With one barrel I shimmed the barrel extension with brass shim stock to get a nice, tight fit. For the other it was a little too tight for shimming so I left it alone.

What SDW said ^^^... I have a Vltor upper receiver on my 7.62x40WT AR. It is a beefier, thicker forged receiver. The brass deflector/bolt assist is a separate unit pinned to the receiver. Mine was also a slip-in fit with the Wilson Combat barrel. The fit was tight enough that shimming wasn't necessary. Just used a couple of drops of green Loctite.

Wilson Combat barrel. Interesting. The barrel of mine that didn't quite take a brass-shimming was also a Wilson Combat. The one I did shim with brass was a Ballistic Advantage.

Pretty sure JP Enterprises also is in this category.

Edit: I just noticed that Montana mention this in post #2.

Sons Of Liberty Gun Works also has a thermal fit upper and is one of the nicest I have seen so far...

Stripped Upper receiver barrel channel gauges out at .9960

My AA upper is definitely a thermal fit. A couple Nordic Components heavy uppers were snug but I could snatch the barrel out.

I cheat and use SS shim stock and thermal fit with the shim.
