  • Finally my review of the MODEL 1 Sales 6.5 sporter/grendel

    6.5 grendel.jpg

I know that I promised to do this some time ago but I have been very busy and although I got my upper back in August I had not fired a shot in it until today. Now before I begin let me first say that I had read all the reviews both good and bad about model 1 sales and like most anything with me I give the benefit of the doubt.

Today was a very mild day here in northern California temp in the 70's and almost no wind. I needed to zero this with the night scope since it will be my HOG hunting gun. I had a very difficult time seeing the crosshairs due to the dust cap on the scope and its needed if you are going to use it in the daylight. I could just barely make out the red on green reticle and could see the target but not very clear. That cap takes away about 90% of ones ability to see but then again its not made for daylight operation. I saw the target and guessed as to the bullseye for zeroing.

The gun in my opinion shot amazing! The action was extremely smooth with zero jams or hangups of any kind. I was somewhat expecting the thing to come apart after having read some of the comments from people. I put 40 rounds thru it today using Hornady 6.5 ammo with 123gr Amax. It shot sub moa and ate this ammo while begging for more!

I just finished taking it apart and cleaning and I must say that I am more than happy with the work Model 1 has done on this upper. I would most certainly put it up against any of the larger name brands and would not be afraid to say who made it. I can recommend them to anyone now having used it for myself.

Thanks for update. I have a M1 AR in 5.56 and it shoots the best of my 3 AR's in 5.56. I am upgrading my 6.5 with a Saturn barrel, it should do better after upgrade.

Now, pics of your hog hunting, that's what I want to see.

Great group, man. I too am thoroughly impressed with the Hornady Amax factory ammo. It shoots as well for me as the .308 168SMK handloads I slaved over...from a bolt-action no less. It just ain't right I tells ya.

          JDub,

I started with Hornady ammo for my 7mag and was so impressed that I tried it on my lever gun with the very same results. Took that gun to Texas with me along with that leverevolution ammo and dropped a 150lb hog.

I like what they put out at that Hornady factory. I am about to learn this art of reloading and have a couple of guys I fly with that do it regularly. Not sure if I can reproduce what they do but I would like to make a round using swift a frame or Nosler partitions for hunting. I think the Amax should work but just not positive.

Man I am glad you posted this. I had read the good and bad reviews of the the Model 1 sales barrels. This was after I bought 2. My 16" shoots well. Better than I can shoot. I have a 24" SS bull barrel that has been sitting with no rounds through it thinking I might need just to buy another barrel and would sell the other as new. The proof is always in shooting. I have to get my over worked butt in the field and zero the gun. Any thoughts on Breaking in the barrel?

Great shooting, man. You have "inspired me!"
